Joining 'Eleven'—a collective of Muslim Australian contemporary art practitioners I’m over the moon and honored to be joining Eleven—a new collective of Muslim Australian contemporary art practitioners and thinkers, many of whom I’ve been greatly inspired by and looked up to ever since I moved to Australia, including Abdul Abdullah, Abdul-rahman Abdullah, Nur Shkembi, Khadim Ali, Shireen Taweel and Khaled Sabsabi. The collective aims to disrupt the current politics of representation and hegemonic discourses; to interrogate and challenge issues of identity, religiosity, gender, colour, race and class within the binary of contemporary culture and tradition. It will bring to the foreground the agency of the artists and their personal narratives to both express and to transcend everyday experiences and knowledge. Watch this space! New shows will be announced very soon...
